About

The Central East Regional Ethics Network

The Central East Regional Ethics Network (CEREN) is a leading health care ethics support system in Central-East Ontario. We are able to provide a centralized, regional approach to health care ethics services to a diverse group of organizations across the continuum of care (hospitals, long-term care homes, community support services). Health care ethics services offered by the CEREN are beneficial for those having access to them by making organizations more accountable, reducing staff distress, providing alternatives in ethically challenging situations, and improving compliance with Accreditation Canada standards for ethics. All CEREN ethics services will be provided by an expert ethicist with graduate training in bioethics, and who is Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified (HEC-C) by the HCEC Certification Commission of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.

Our Mission is to enhance the quality of patient care by developing capacity in, and providing support for, ethical decision-making.

Our Vision is to ensure a region-wide approach to ethics is available, accessible, and accountable.

Our Values include:

  • Accountability
  • Collaboration
  • Excellence
